Android is a leading operating system for mobile devices, which was acquired by Google from its initial developer, Android Inc., in 2005. According to the reports of Canalys, the Android operating system was the top selling smartphone platform across the world in Q4 2010. Android phones are increasingly becoming popular because of their high-end handsets with bigger display screens, latest features and cool social network apps.

Social network apps are one of the best things about Android phones. These applications allow you to utilize various social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, and perform different social networking tasks, such as updating status, chatting with other users, and sending and reading the latest tweets.

Social Network Apps: Facebook for Android and Twitter for Android

Here are 2 popular and easy to install social network apps for your Android phone:

Facebook for Android: With over 500 million active users, Facebook is one of the most popular social networking websites. The Facebook for Android application is officially supported and endorsed by Facebook. The app has all the necessary features that a user would require and is maintained by the developer.

The app makes it easy to share information and stay connected with your family, friends and acquaintances. The app allows you to share your status updates, share links, check news feeds, view the walls of your friends, chat with your friends, reply to their messages, watch videos and upload your favorite images. The app usually comes pre-installed in many mobile devices. And even if your smartphone does not come with the app preloaded, you can install it yourself.

Twitter for Android: This is one of the fastest growing social network apps. The application is among the 5 most used Twitter applications. You can use the app even if you have not signed in or do not have an account. The application enables you to share your current status, watch friends' status, tweet, retweet, check out the latest tweets and news, carry out real time search, upload photos and post videos. The app also enables you to view the tweet locations on a map.

However, this application is compatible only with the phones that run on Android 2.1 and above. Twitter for Android cannot be accessed from phones with older versions of Android (such as 1.5, 1.6).

Some of the other popular social network apps for Android are 3D Motion Twitter, TweetsRide, Twidroid, Seesmic, Bloo, fooBook, DroidIn, Foursquare, Phonebook 2.0, TuneWiki, Flickr Droid, MySpace app and Digg App for Android.

HTC has been growing impressively thanks to Android OS. HTC took a chance with the G1 and made their presence known.

As 2011 starts, HTC unveiled a plethora of smartphones at the Mobile World Congress. Amid one of the newly announced smartphones was the HTC Incredible S. The original HTC Incredible debuted to very a bit of fanfare as the Droid Incredible on Verizon Wireless in the U.S. market. The original HTC Incredible actually did not release anywhere other than the U.S. The HTC Incredible S is the successor to the original, adding a simple 'S' at the end of the name, and being available globally. It is set to debut in the European market in Q2 2011.

This handset includes a sizeable sized touch display which virtually fills the complete front part in the casing as well as it supports responsive multi touch controls. This Smartphone measures 12cm by six.4cm by one.17cm & it weighs 135.5 grams. The screen measures four inches from corner to corner & has a Super LCD capacitive type exhibit, plus the user can view up to as many as sixteen million colours on this gorgeous display. A HTC Sense user interface can be enjoyed about the touch exhibit & the Incredible S supports a customisable home display & HTC widgets. An onscreen keypad or keyboard will be displayed about the four inch display allowing the user to use touch screen controls to input numeric or alphabetic input. Its casing has a sophisticated appearance & comes in a stylish black colour. There are touch sensitive keys position below the touch exhibit which allows the user to entry home, a search facility instantly, or to provide the user with a keypad or back option.

HTC have sought to differentiate the Incredible S from its existing range of Android phones by subtle contouring in its style. This is especially noticeable from the rear. Otherwise, there isn't an entire lot here that's new - it fills a gap in the line-up instead than bringing anything revolutionary to the table. So perhaps "Incredible" is stretching things slightly.

Its imaging attributes incorporate an image stabiliser, dual LED flash, touch focus, automatic focus, photo & video geo tagging & colour settings. This camera lens also supports exceptional definition quality video clip capturing at thirty frames per second. Music can be enjoyed for entertainment either via the radio feature with FM tuning & a radio data system support, or via the integrated music player, as well as superior quality sound can be enjoyed via the built in speakers.

Below the exhibit are the now standard touch sensitive shortcuts for home, menu, back and search, found on most other Android powered handsets. The interesting thing about these 4 shortcuts is that the keys are not painted on. When you rotate the Incredible S, the 4 shortcuts also rotate. Not a huge change but a subtle change that makes the HTC Incredible S stand out just a bit more than its competitors.

There is a built in HTML Net browser complete with a touch activated zoom function, providing a clear & up close view of selected World wide web pages. A Google search & YouTube compatibility makes surfing the Web a fun experience on the Incredible S. Wi-Fi connectivity allows this Smartphone to connect to a hotspot or nearby wireless LAN for a cable free On-line connection. There is 1.1 gigabytes of internal memory & 768 megabytes of RAM, plus the user can extend the Smartphone's memory further by inserting a MicroSD memory card which is 32 gigabytes in dimensions.

As a lot as 9.7 hours of talk time can be enjoyed from a fully charged battery & when the handset is used over a GSM network, compared to approximately six.4 hours of talk time of a 3G network. A step by step navigation guide provides the user with directions to their next destination with a Google maps display.

If you're choosing amongst the Incredible S in addition to the Desire High definition, you'll probably conclude that the Desire Hd offers more, although it is of course a larger phone as well as the Incredible S has better battery daily life. There will be more Android phones released in the next few months, so you might want to wait for one of your dual-core devices before making up your mind. But then again, new phones are being released all the time and there's always something better, just around the corner.
